Cuban funk sensation Cimafunk and his 9-piece band from Havana, La Tribu, join forces with AfroCuban legend Chucho Valdés on a reenvisioned version of Valdes’ classic Mambo Influenciado. The updated version of Mambo Influenciado was created as part of the Latin GRAMMYs® 25th anniversary celebration, in which The Latin Recording Academy®  selected 5 iconic artists and paired them with emerging stars to create brand new arrangements of classic songs. This is the latest collaboration between Chucho, the 2018 Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and Cimafunk, who grew up listening to Chucho’s music and dreamt of meeting him.

“Pure talent and imagination, Cimafunk & La Tribu is a clear example of the advance of the new generations in Music…” said Chucho Valdés. “I felt privileged and proud that these young musicians gave me the honor of a project together where my piece ‘Mambo Influenciado’ that is a classic has transcended time. I could confirm that this is a XXI century version of my piece. Thanks Cimafunk & La Tribu for your respect!”
“Chucho is ‘the school’ for those of us who want to learn and grow. He’s the master,” said Cimafunk. “We learn from him every day, not only about the music, but the showmanship, image and clothing, how to organize business dealings, being classy, respectful and thoughtful.”
“We all grew up listening to Mambo Influenciado,” said Dr. Zapa, drummer and musical director for Cimafunk & La Tribu. “Jam out in the studio with the maestro Chucho to find a new, updated version of this song is every Cuban musician’s dream.”
“As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations we wanted to create a project that aligns with our mission of transcending generation, geography, gender and genres,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy.
Released by InnerJazz, a division of InnerCat Music Group, Mambo Influenciado by Chucho Valdés, Cimafunk and La Tribu, is now available on all platforms.
