Kapo continues to solidify his status as the artist of the moment. After the unofficial leak of his track “Uwaie” led to numerous fan-made versions on YouTube and Spotify, and amassed over a million uses on TikTok, the singer has finally released the official version of his second afrobeat single, “Uwaie.” The track is now available on all digital platforms, with the accompanying video live on YouTube.
In this new release, Kapo stays true to his mission of creating meaningful music that resonates deeply with fans of urban genres. This approach echoes the success of his previous hit “Oh Na Na,” which has garnered 50 million views on YouTube, 75 million streams on Spotify, and secured a spot in the global top 100. The track also captivated audiences across Spain, where Kapo performed before over 130,000 people at Karol G’s concert at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu, the Zevra Festival in Valencia alongside Maluma (where they debuted the remix live), and at the “Barcelona Goes Reggaeton” event with fellow Colombian artist, Ryan Castro.
Much like “Ohnana,” which means “trust, everything will be alright” in Kapo’s unique language, “Uwaie” is a new term coined by the artist, translating to “I’m in love with you.” With this song, Kapo aims to celebrate women, emphasizing their importance in various roles as mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and partners. His goal is to elevate “Uwaie” to a universal expression of love, something Kapo believes the world is in dire need of.
The music video, shot between Cartagena and Miami under the direction of Darío Burbano of One Concept, features a diverse group of women of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Kapo describes the video as “magical,” especially because the lead roles are played by his mother and Isabella Ladera, two significant influences in his life and career. The video is dedicated to them and to women everywhere.
Kapo has also been named Amazon Music Colombia’s Rompe Artist for 2024. The launch event, which took place on August 14, introduced the Rompe program in Colombia’s new format. As the Rompe Artist, Kapo delivered a powerful initial performance, followed by a headlining set from Grupo Niche. During the event, Kapo performed his global hit “Ohnana,” the soon-to-be smash “Uwaie,” and fan favorites like “Mochilera,” “Algarete,” “Pelinegra,” and “Bulevar.”
The momentum behind “Ohnana” shows no signs of slowing down. Kapo recently confirmed via social media that a remix is in the works, featuring heavyweights Farruko, Ryan Castro, Maluma, and Nicky Jam.
