Los Angeles, CA. (September 26, 2025) — After receiving her second Latin Grammy nomination for her latest album, Candombe, Julieta Rada released a new live version of the album, which is now nominated in the “Best Folk Album” category. The album also received four nominations for Uruguay’s Graffiti Awards in the categories Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Candombe Album, and Best Music Video – El Tambor. “Candombe en Vivo,” recorded at a concert that was a profound celebration of Uruguayan identity, a vibrant tribute to candombe and its tradition, was immortalized at the iconic Teatro Solís in Montevideo, Uruguay.
“In 1995, my father recorded an album in New York called Montevideo. It’s one of my favorite albums. He presented that album at the Teatro Solís, and it was a historic moment,” Julieta said about the live album. “For me, it’s a source of enormous pride to have followed in his footsteps and, in a way, repeated history: recording a candombe album in New York and presenting it at the same theater.”She continued: “But beyond that, what really excites me is continuing to share and honor this candombe heritage, which is part of who we are. Taking those roots that are so much a part of us out into the world and bringing them back home to the Solís was something very profound. This album is a piece of history, memory, and heart.”
Accompanied by an exceptional band and a constellation of distinguished guests—Rubén Rada, Nahuel Pennisi, Abril Olivera, Tabaré Cardozo, Facu Balta, Fede Peña, and Lobo Núñez—Julieta Rada offered a powerful and emotional performance of her latest work (Candombe, 2024), with arrangements specially conceived for this unique encounter. Each artist contributed their voice, their story, and their emotion to a night that will remain engraved in the memory of Uruguayan and South American music.
This album seeks to reflect the living tradition of candombe from a contemporary perspective: Julieta Rada’s unique sound, infused with influences from soul, funk, and pop, dialogues with the roots of the drum and the collective spirit that defines the genre. Beyond her original compositions, the repertoire includes heartfelt renditions of popular classics, bridging the legacy of the past with the vitality of the present. The audience, a fundamental part of the experience, accompanied each song with warm and emotional enthusiasm, completing the magic of an unforgettable night.
This is not just a live album. It is a testimony. It is history.
